The Kangaroo Traveling Mathematics Museum team conducted a station-based activity at our school for 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students themed “What is Mathematics Used For?” The activities demonstrated the connections between mathematics and other fields, including: Mathematics and Art with Penrose tiles, Mathematics and Illusion with anamorphic mirrors, Mathematics and Music with a monochord, Mathematics and Astronomy with a sundial, Mathematics and Computers with a binary counting machine and Caesar cipher technique, Mathematics and Aesthetics with a Golden Ratio compass, Mathematics and Painting with a perspective machine.
Through these interactive station activities, our students encountered tangible examples of how mathematics intersects with various other disciplines.
