On October 4th, Animal Protection Day, the 9th-grade students of Özel Mürüvvet Evyap College and Science High School visited the Safiye Kaya Temporary Shelter for Stray Animals, which is affiliated with the Sarıyer Municipality. At the fully equipped center, the students saw our furry friends undergoing treatment and toured the newly constructed cat shelter. They also had the chance to see the center’s surgery rooms and intensive care units, which have expanded with the new unit.
During their visit, the students asked the veterinarians about the animals whose treatment had recently been completed and who were still staying at the shelter, as well as questions about the center. They learned that the facility is not a permanent shelter and that animals are either returned to their original locations after treatment or adopted. The students also participated in the program held at the center under the Sarıyer Municipality’s Animal Protection Day events, where they expressed their thoughts about the center and animals during interviews. Additionally, they accepted food distributed for free by the municipality to give to their furry friends. The students also had the opportunity to pet some of the animals, further strengthening their love and awareness of animals, and left the shelter with happiness at the end of the day.
We would like to thank our students and the teachers involved in this visit.
